The Last Day

Hey guys, it’s my last day as an STA for the 2018 Fall – 2019 Spring Semester. The LAITS STA program has been such an invaluable part of my freshman year. I saw the skills required in coding, in design, in general LAITS practices transfer into my school work as well. It was incredible to work with Suloni, I can’t imagine ever working for a boss who genuinely cares for us and pushes us to be better as Suloni does. The  LAITS staff were a pleasure to work with as well – Tim, Chris, Stacy, and countless others, thank you so much. The other STAs were gems as well, thank you to everyone that answered my slacks and pleas asking for help!! Y’all are incredible. At LAITS I strengthened my coding skills by building the UT Appstore and countless other websites for LAITS. I also gained a better experience in design by learning Photoshop and using those skills to do Photo IDs, flyer designs, and mockups. I can’t believe that I was trusted and given the opportunity to work on so many projects so near and dear to the university. As a freshman, nothing made me feel more at home at UT than did working as an STA.

 

This summer I’ll be taking some summer classes, spending time at home with my family, traveling around the United States and abroad to Dubai & India, and interning at a law firm! I also hope to take some time to improve my coding and design skills :’). I don’t know if I’ll be back next semester, but I can say that I’ve had the best time working for LAITS.

Future Cascade Projects

There’s like a month-ish until this semester ends & so Suloni & I met to discuss what I’ll be up to. I’m going to be busy with a lot of Cascade projects this next month, mostly because I’ve been learning more about and working exclusively on Cascade this semester.

 

 

First Up: Creating a new page for the “Paid Graphic Design Services” site. Chloe had been working on this, but I’m going to be compiling information from all the different STA projects and LAITS Websites.

Second Up: Reformatting the STA website.

Third Up: Reformatting the COLA Help Guides (perhaps? maybe so??)

Andd the “Final” version of the LAITS Web Services Rebuild is Here!

Suloni & I spent quite a bit of time reworking the design of the orange callout box. I learned so much about Cascade’s callout box styling (and how much it LOVES to wrap..) I think I’ve really gotten the hang of Cascade and coding in the source code box of Cascade. I’m actually so proud of how the design turned out! The linked buttons at the bottom of the page were especially fun. That being said, if Tim approves of this layout then this project is officially done!

 

LAITS Website Rebuild

Suloni asked me to help with rebuilding the LAITS Web Services website! The current website is pretty arbitrary. The links & content don’t make sense. Not to mention, the user has no idea what the website is actually for. So far, my tasks have been to create mock-ups for the new banner & suggest edits to the actual website. Today, I incorporated my edited banner/mock-up into the “test” Cascade site.

Obviously there’s still a long road ahead but this is pretty cool!
