Today will be my last shift working as an STA. The last task I worked on was finding photos for the following Psychology powerpoint.

I’ve learned a lot about effective client communication and setting project expectations through my time working at LAITS, as well as graphic design principles and practices. Thank you to Suloni, Andre, Ruben, Stacy, and the other STAs for making this a great campus job!

 

My project in the past couple of weeks has been laying out the designs for the three LAITS departments: audio, video and graphic design. Above are all the cards after three more iterations of edits and changes! I’m still in the process of working closely with Kelly and Samantha from video and audio to properly portray the tasks that their STAs work on. One thing I had to keep in my mind is how these cards may look once they become animated. Which parts should move or change?

 

This week I worked with Suloni to come up with and refine the designs for the graphics department for the LAITS video. We brainstormed images of icons to use to communicate the four main tasks we do in this office. Below are the current drafts, after two rounds it iterations.

Our newest task is to design and create a new video that translates the tasks that LAITS perform. As of now, the set of cards outside of the STA room serves the same idea. After a couple of rounds of meetings with Chad (program manager), Kelly (video department) and Samantha (audio department), Suloni and I had a better idea of how we wanted the video to look. We would illustrate some main tasks each of the STA offices do, and include animations along with videos of the actual students doing the task. My job is to create a template of “cards” and pass my illustration ideas down the the artists for them to create. More updates to come.

This past week I got the chance to design another poster! The history department is hosting an event commemorating the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther. I decided to use a Fraktur typeface more or less appropriate for the historical period, along with a bold “M” as a reference to illuminated manuscripts popular among religious texts from Martin Luther’s era.  Below are my three iterations.

For the final iteration, the client asked for a more red color as well as more attention drawn to the speakers’ names and information. I scaled down the M slightly in order not to obscure the main image.

This past week I have been working on re-creating Flash content using JSON based Canvasser for the Texas Beyond History project. In this project my job consists of loading the correct images and files into the Canvasser portal, and making the changes to animate them. Below are some more screenshots for another animation.

At the same time, I have also been working on various COLA IDs, processing them for online display.
