What Jane Saw: My role

September 7, 2017 By Stephanie Lawrence

My first job working as a STA was for a project called What Jane Saw. I worked with Prof. Janine Barchas to create this online exhibition depicting the first museum dedicated to William Shakespeare. The museum, which housed this exhibition in 1796, no longer exists, and much about the paintings and space of the museum is unclear or unknown.

The first step of this project was trying to recreate the museum space on an 3D modeling program called SketchUp using clues given about the space. Once those 3D models were create, then came my part. I traced over the renderings to create the line work of the frames and faces of the rooms. My goal was create an accurate and realistic depiction of the space, but add artistic and “sketchy” qualities that the SketchUp model didn’t show. Once I finished the line work, I brought that into Photoshop and rendered it using a variety of methods and adding numerous textures and layers to make eye-catching and pleasant views in the museum. The paintings were added in the frames, and the image was complete.

These images were used the interactive online exhibition of the Shakespeare Gallery, where visitors can learn more about its history and the paintings that were once displayed there.

Texas Beyond History Pages

August 8, 2016 By Travis Tate

I worked on reformatting WordPress pages that had been transferred in from the original site. In WordPress, I worked in the text section moving images via their HTML in relation to their text from the original pages, creating menus to link together all exhibits together, applying captions and alternative captions for visual impaired students, as well as create text blocks for quotes from the text.

On left: newly formatted page in WordPress; using image galleries to keep text and pictures in line, as well as, creating menus to link appropriate pages together (seen in top right corner of image).

On right: old Texas Beyond History page.

August 8, 2016 By Teresa Cagle

Marla and Maria requested some new icons and banners be created for HIS 315K.

  1. Produce a new Hidden History icon to match the others from one of the attached images of the King George II statue:

hiddenpistory

2. Produce a Thinking Comparatively icon  (suggest a globe as the icon)

globe
3. Create a new icon (suggest a check mark, perhaps) for Authentication  (this is an ID check)  and for Module Evaluation (these are survey questions to gather feedback on the course)
modulevaluation  authentication
4. Create a banner for the Authentication and Module Evaluation sections that is a different color than the dark gray background used for the course content sections (see attached Icons and Banners in Context.)
