More COLA Photo ID edits

August 30, 2018 By Valerie Tran

Making progress on the COLA Photo IDs! I did two today and I’m waiting for approval before I publish them on the COLA database and send out emails.

The COLA Photo IDs I worked on today.

I think I’m making better progress compared to my last shift. I’ll try to wrap up all the COLA IDs assigned to me next shift!

First COLA Photo ID edit!

August 29, 2018 By Valerie Tran

Today was very productive! I learned how to edit Photo IDs for faculty/staff/grad students and I’m still trying to get the hang of editing. Estella was super nice and helpful as she showed me the ropes.

Before and after editing and resizing Brittany Allen’s photo.

This was a very enlightening experience, though it took me some time to get it. I hope that I’ll get better and quicker as time goes on. I’m going to try to edit some more next time!

My First STA meeting and Caricature

August 28, 2018 By Valerie Tran

I got to participate in my first STA meeting today! I shared my posts and talked about what I’ve done in the past 3 days. It was really cool seeing what other people were working on and seeing their progress on their projects was fascinating.

I also finished my caricature despite my problems with ProCreate!!!

It’s me!

I also read up on the Photo ID process to completion, so I’ll be able to practice and learn some more tomorrow with some guidance from Estella. Lots to look forward to!

First Monday on the Job!

August 27, 2018 By Valerie Tran

I came in early today to work on my STA blog banner and finished it!

It’s my blog banner!

Today, I was planning on finishing up my caricature, but I lost some of my work 🙁 I’m going to try to make up for lost time and try to wrap up the caricature assignment tomorrow. I was also looking through and reading the instructions on the PhotoID process and familiarizing myself with it. I want to dive into the Photo ID process and get some hands on experience before the end of the week.  There’s a lot of stuff to look forward to tomorrow and this coming week!

First Day as a STA!!!

August 24, 2018 By Valerie Tran

Yesterday was my first day as a STA! I met Emily, Tate, Jaclyn, and Kathy for the first time and everyone is so nice 🙂

Emily and I went through orientation together and were guided by Suloni, Jaclyn, and Kathy. We ran through the STA Handbook and were taught the basics (how to use Harvest, clocking in and out, navigating the UTDirect time sheets, etc.). After that, Emily and I were tasked to assist Rodrigo on the Canvasser project.

For the Canvasser project, I was assigned to fix the fonts on the “sub” shapes (“Roberto Slab Light” to “RobertoSlab-Light”) and the “step_small” (from “Roberto Light” to “Roberto-Light”).

Top: Changed the fonts for shape “sub1” from “Roberto Slab Light” to “RobertoSlab-Light”.

Bottom: Changed the fonts for shape “step_small” from “Roberto Light” to “Roberto-Light”.

I also added periods to the ends of sentences that didn’t have them in the “step” and the “step_small” shapes.

Addition of periods to the ends of sentences.

After that Rodrigo told us there was a problem with the title box and that an “image” needed to be uploaded and that the image needed to be interactive so that when clicked on, it will link to the homepage. He provided us the image (big_orange_square) and we added it to the slides and linked it to slide 0. We adjusted the image so that its position would be x: 117, y: 0 and made it interactive.

Adjustments and changes for the addition of the “big_orange_square” were done in the “Properties” window and reflected in the “Output” window.

I completed this process for the files “support_outlook_2”, “support_wifi_2”, and “support_newcomputer”.

As for today, I worked on my PowerPoint assignment that illustrated 5 points from the STA Handbook.

I also worked on my caricature assignment! I think I’ll be able to finish it by Monday. I’m also learning how to navigate WordPress so that I can make posts that effectively reflect what I’ve done while I was clocked in.

A work in progress!

All in all, it’s been a very productive first few days! I’m very excited to see what the future holds 🙂
