STA Presenter Intros

Project: STA Presenter Intros
Client: LAITS
started on: March 20, 2023
staff guidance: Maddy
description/plans: I’m essentially creating slides for the STAs who will potentially be presenting at the STA Presentation. The images will play in a video format and show the STA’s name, department, major, grade, and graduation year. The video will feature a variety of poses as well as knickknacks from their respective STA department. The goal is for these to match stylistically with the other STA Presentation assets.

Intro Training: Style A&B Course Graphics (contd)

Project: Style A&B Course Graphics
Client /Prof: hypothetically Robert Quigley
Completion status: started March 2, 2023
Staff guidance: Valerie
Description/plans:  Create a full course design in Style A and Style B. I’m making course graphics that I would imagine for a class I am currently taking, True Crime Podcasts with Professor Robert Quigley. I would recommend it to anyone interested in journalism or the slightest interest in true crime!
To be completed: March 21, 2023 (woohoo!)

RACE Lab Logo

project: Resilience and Adversity (in) Children’s Ecology Lab Logo
Client /Prof: Professor Ibekwe-Okafor
completion status: Started March 2, 2023
staff guidance: Maddy and Valerie
description/plans: Design a logo/branding for Prof. Ibekwe-Okaforwork that can be used on her website.
To be completed: before Summer

  • key terms: access, resilience, systems (Brunfenbrenner), education, early development, adversity, & black joy
  • steer away from explicit political imagery and colors (red and blue)
  • color: neutrals, earth tones, greenery
  • layers and systems to the way people develop

brainstorming:

UTFC – City Image Search 9.2

project: UTFC – City Image Search 9.2
Client /Prof: Kyle
staff guidance: Leilani
STA team members: Leilani
description/plans:

    • Google the city and search for important landmarks
    • Find up to 5 high-quality images of buildings to include in the folder.
    • Find up to 2 cultural images (statues, markets, food, etc) to include in the folder.
    • When I have found all the images, upload them to the box folder and share the box link to basecamp for approval from Leilani

To be completed: March 8, 2023

  • An issue I ran into during this image search is that there are very few copyright-free AND high-quality photos of Fa’a’ā. The selection increases when you search Papeʻete (the city Fa’a’ā is a suburb of), Tahiti, or Polynesia but I know Adrian is sourcing images for Pape’ete. This is definitely a challenge;p

STA CUT-OUTS

Project: STA cut-outs
Client: LAITS
started on: February 22, 2023
staff guidance: Maddy, Valerie
STA team members: Adrian, Lorena, Carrie, Leilani
description/plans: Cut out STAs from the background and remove blue reflections/correct coloring.

  • minor edits: Valerie got back to those working on the STA cut-outs with feedback. Mostly it’s removing additional blue reflections from the STA and their clothes. Also, major props to Carrie for doing so many of these so quickly– I admire her workflow!!! :0

GSD Course Promo Flyer

Project: GSD Course Promo Flyer
Client /Prof: Germanic studies
Completion status: TBD
Staff guidance: Maddy, Valerie & Adrian
Description/plans: Germanic studies have requested a batch of course posters, so we’re using templates. Some of the posters have photo assets provided; choose 1-2 that look good together, collage if necessary but keep it simple! If assets aren’t provided, find something relevant to the course.

EUS 305

  • The description of the course was quite brief so I wasn’t sure what kind of images would best suit this flyer. I’ve since received feedback from Adrian that “professors prefer newer ‘cleaner’ graphics when the topic is open-ended” He suggested looking into political maps of Europe or some EU-related symbol.

EUS 305: Final

GSD 341S

  • Although this triptych seems a little jarring at first glance, it’s very direct about the progression from print to film. Tbh I would love to see how we got from a print and press to Heidi Klum on Germany’s Next Top Model.

GSD 361P

  • There was a lot of back and forth about what kind of picture should be placed on the right (2014 world cup, 1936 Olympics, etc.)

STA Photo Cutouts

I started cutting out some STA photos but the ones I’ve completed are also design STAs and I do not want to put a giant pic of their face on my blog in case they don’t want that LOL

Faculty Search Committee PPT Redesign

Project: FSC PPT Redesign
Client /Prof: Dr. Grayson
Completion status: TBD
Staff guidance: Maddy & Lorena
Description/plans: On the first day, I sourced icons from thenounproject.com for a slide in the PPT. Next, Adrian and I helped redo some of the graphs into the new format/slide template Lorena created. Having a graph template made the process really smooth, so thank you Lorena!!

icons:

  • I tried to choose icons based on the text provided and match the style/line weight as best as I could.

lol no graph pics anymore

2023 STA Hiring Poster

Project: STA Hiring Poster
Client /Prof: LAITS
Completion status: TBD
Staff guidance: Maddy
Description/plans: On Feb 14, LAITS is having a ‘job fair’ in RLP as part of CoLA’s “Liberal Arts Week”.  This is to advertise the various student positions we have available in the department. My task was to make a 1-page flyer that can be handed out at the job fair (could also be potentially used at future events).

I had some very useful design guidance from Maddy during this process. My first draft was mainly setting up the general layout that Mike suggested. Afterward, Maddy helped me with inserting the LAITS colors and text formatting. It was very informative to hear and see some of the design methods that Maddy uses.

February 9, 2023

Progress made after meeting with Valerie:

  • call to actions
  • discussed having rounder shapes
  • separating the departments and cleaning up the text
  • making it less ‘web-site-y’

FINAL POSTER BY VALERIE:

First STA Meeting of Spring ’23

Our first meeting of Spring ’23 was much smaller than Fall’s :,) But it was nice to hear and see what everyone has been up to since Winter Break (feels like so long ago)! It’s always cool to see the graphics everyone has been making, especially if I’ve seen them around campus. I do miss the big meetings, but the smaller one was chill and intimate.
