Photo IDs

Photo IDs

This one was pretty straight forward. To be honest, I didn’t change much in either picture because

1. These were already pretty good in terms of the quality of photography, and

2. Because military related pictures, and pictures showing flag can be very particular with the extend to which you can edit things.

So, in the end, I just did some subtle color corrections, and adjusted the clarity of the images to make them less blurry.

PSY Labs Site NEW: TIES Lab Home Banner

April 6, 2022 By Cristina Villarreal Núñez

PSY Labs Site NEW: TIES Lab Home Banner

Project: TIES Lab Home Banner
Client: Dr. Adela Timmons
Completion Status: In Progress…
Staff Guidance: Maddy Kaniewski
STA Team Members: Cristina (c’est moi)
Description/Plans: To design a banner that projects the lab’s focus on couples, kids, and family, as well as their mission of tying technology with family & relationships.

Some of the guidelines I got from the creative brief were as follows:

– Lab focus is on couples, kids, and family (visit the old lab site to get a better grasp on what the lab is about)
– Would like to incorporate technology + family & relationships
– No particular design style specified, feel free to get creative with what you think would work best for this lab

So taking that into account, I decided to start working on a collage-like banner, partly based on the amount of pictures they used in the old lab site (specially compared to the minimal graphics and illustrations used). So after drafting and getting some feedback, these are some mockups I made to send over to our client seeking for feedback and/or approval.

Photo IDs

Here are some Photo ID’s I worked on recently. The one on the right was especially interesting since the photo they submitted did not follow the ID guidelines of having the subject centered in the photo. But since it was an overall good, well lit, image, I decided not to ask for a replacement one and instead improvise and add in some background on Photoshop.

Germanic Studies Flyer and Graphics Pt.4

Germanic Studies Flyers Pt.4

Project: Germanic Studies Flyer
Client: Dr. Hans C. Boas
Completion Status: Done!
Staff Guidance: Suloni Robertson
STA Team Members: Cristina (t’is I)
Description/Plans: To create the design for “Level Up” campaign promoting and explaining the path students can take to get a German major and/or certificate.

So, forget everything I said in Pt.3 of this saga… big changes were made since then…

For reference, the image to the left is what the flyer looked like over a month ago, when I sent this version the client’s way. But, at some point near mid-March, we were approached once again asking for the following few final edits:

– Flip the “hill climb” so that it reads from left-right (ascending)

– Change the header to “Level up to a German (Double) Major”

– Make the sky blue and the clouds off-white, (going for the Super Mario background look)

– Change the color of the background mountain from purplish brown to shades of a lighter green (or ocher)

– Remove the image of the Berlin TV tower as a whole, and finally

– Replace some of the text and course numbers with their new input

So, I got down to business…

Apr 20, Note: This week the client for this project reached out once again to let us know there was one final edit they needed for the version published on cascade, so made sure to make that edit and re-upload on the site. Here’s how that looks like now…

Also! I was passing through the Texas Union the other day, and I spotted one of the designs in the wild:

Swedish Language Promo Designs Pt. 4

Swedish Language Promo Designs Pt. 4

Project: Promo Designs for Swedish Language Course
Client: Smyth Johansson
Completion Status: Done!
Staff Guidance: Suloni Robertson
STA Team Members: Cristina (yo)
Description/Plans: To create the design for the “Find Your Spark” campaign promoting the Fall 2022 Swedish Language course.

From the four different ornate matchbox sketches I drew up last time, the client ended up choosing the one shown in the image to the left. So I started drafting on Illustrator, and here are some pics of the progress…

The final look of the matchbox itself looks like this, after adding color, texture, and old time-y print effects:

After the final design was approved, I was then tasked to reformat it for different printing and online promo purposes. I’ve finalized all designs now, and this is what they ended up looking like:

Fun Fact: The Digital Screen Ad deliverable looks different because ads like these are only on the viewer’s screen for a few seconds. There’s no time for them to read all the info. So to maximize the effectiveness of this design, we decided to replace the traditional paragraph with a the course information.

April 6th Note:

We got a request today for a final promo item on this! It’s a sticker, and here’s how that looks like…

Swedish Language Promo Designs Pt. 3

Swedish Language Promo Designs Pt. 3

Going back to the Swedish Language Promo Designs, I was instructed to go back to the minimal content version but redesign the style into a more ornate 19th century safety matchbox design. The following are examples they sent over:

…and I started to try some things out… But, that didn’t seem to be working.
