10/31/16

November 3, 2016 By Lauren Shafford

Today I got to meet with Andre and talk about the big COLA website revamp that’s going on in LAITS. Specifically we will be focusing on Undergraduate Research Opportunities (UROP). Not a lot of students/professors are taking advantage of the site, even though many students want to get involved in undergrad connections with professors. Many of the listed opportunities may be outdated and unavailable, but are still on the site. (The oldest are from 2010! I doubt those are still ongoing…) There are also only a few listed every semester, and we’re sure that there are more opportunities than are listed on the site. So what’s going on? Maybe professors and students have different ways of communicating with each other, or use different resources. Maybe professors just aren’t offering as many opportunities as we think they are. Maybe they don’t like the UROP website for some reason. (It does seem a little bland.) So the question is, how can we change the UROP site to attract students and faculty, make it more accessible and user friendly, and encourage communication between professors and students?
